AGENDA WORKSHOP

On May 10, 2025, at the De Sanctis Galilei Classical/Scientific High School, located in Manduria (TA), we met with more than 100 fifth-year high school students and held a workshop with them about cinema and how cinema and video can help to talk about environmental sustainability/climate change in a strong and concise way.

We started by presenting the European project we are involved in and gathered feedback from the youngsters on how to talk about environmental sustainability and climate change. The students were very interested in the topic, given that our territory (Puglia and Southern Italy) has a direct connection with nature and wants to preserve the sea and the countryside. Many of them, in fact, emphasized the importance of protecting our sea and our beaches from the incorrect behavior of some citizens/tourists and also activating daily practices to preserve our environment from major changes.

Then we provided them with some film concepts: specifically, we showed them how to record a “professional” video using a smartphone. We then encouraged everyone to use their smartphones to record anything they want (even related to the environment) in order to express their opinions.

In the end, we showed them the first episode of our YouTube series and the students were happy to see how, through the video, social concepts can be expressed and solutions can be sought for the resolution of many environmental problems.

The total duration was about 1.5 hours and some of their teachers also participated.
